Earlier this week the Guild sent its 732 members a survey asking them what wage and benefit cuts they would be willing to accept either unilaterally or if management accepted the same. But before even getting results of the survey which is due back Friday the Guild took a tough stand against management in a meeting yesterday. “Subject matter having no cost saving attribution will not be subject to negotiation” the Guild said in a statement. This could pose a huge roadblock because Times Co. management wants to eliminate lifetime job guarantees enjoyed by about 170 Guild members and make layoffs without regard to seniority or length of employment. In its statement the Guild which just cut 50 positions also took a jab at management saying “sacrifices will once again be necessary to help ensure a stable future for the Globe.
