Six arrested in San Jose waste-hauling scheme
San Jose Mercury News  USA
The Carmel waste broker stands accused of bribing almost the entire staff of the South San Jose landfill. Instead of paying Waste Management millions of dollars in dumping fees authorities say Lucero pocketed much of his clients’ money and paid out the rest in bribes. n Wednesday Santa Clara County prosecutors announced they have charged the commercial waste broker and five employees of the landfill with conspiracy and bribery accusing them of defrauding the garbage giant out of $13 million over the past two years. The felony complaint accuses Lucero 52 who runs Resource Development Service of paying off landfill employees to waive dump-truck entry fees and misclassify their contents to lower disposal charges. San Jose cops arrested Lucero on Tuesday morning at his waterfront Carmel home with his $240000 Bentley parked out front and Andalusian show horse Fugitivo stabled nearby. The suspected mastermind of the multimillion-dollar scheme reportedly complained about being busted before Christmas.
